St.Jacob's, Elmira, Elora, Fergus and their highlights

The morning after we visited Shakespeare and Stratford, we head out to the St. Jacob's Farmer's Market. Keep in mind, the Market is busy during Saturdays although it is open during Sundays. The Mennonite community does not conduct business during God's day.

Picard's Peanuts
was our next stop at St.Jacob's. This is a hidden delight and a gem to visit this store. You get to sample the individual peanuts and decide which you prefer. The prices are wonderful because they are actually cheap. A big bag of salted sunflower seeds goes for $1.99 and the same price goes for yogurt covered raisins.

Elmira is famous for the annual Maple Syrup festival where you can expect up to 70,000 people making their visits to Elmira for the succulent pancakes slathered with butter and authentic maple syrup. It is truly a community event with thousands of volunteers. Kudos goes out to everyone who worked for the Maple Syrup festival! Make sure you mark your calendar next year April for the Maple Syrup festival, it's an experience not to be forgotten.

We now head off to Elora, a cosy and quaint community. Elora is famous for the Elora Gorge. I grew up listening to stories about my father diving off "The Gorge" and enjoying himself. Dad would be so proud of me typing this story as he now admits that "The Gorge" as he knew is just not the same anymore. Granted, it has changed. Water levels have rapidly reduced and diving off the gorge is prohibited.

There is a brand new store in Elora that needs to be checked out by people who loves primitives and as well as those who loves to sew with "Americana" fabric. The Olde Crow had their grand opening on Friday April 5th 2008 and this is a wonderful quaint two floor shop specialising in candles, primitives and decorations on the main floor. The top floor specialises in primitive & Americana fabric.

Holly and Carla just set shop recently and you can find their website at this link. Be sure to stop by their store and you will feel right at home when you enter The Olde Crow. I know I did. Carla's favourite scent is Crow Berry, it smells like cranberry. Holly can be found upstairs in the quilting and fabric area. Both ladies are always ready to help you.

I had permission from Carla to post pictures of The Olde Crow and the website's link into this blog. Once again, please respect the local artisans' work and not use their ideas as your own. I thank you for this.

Here are random pictures that DH and I took in Elora, ON. They are fantastic and we had to share with you all the beautiful pictures.
